When should I start potty training my puppy or dog?

NOW!!! The longer you wait, the harder it's going to be.

What about paper training or litter box training?

If you want him to go outside on the grass, it's not the greatest idea if the grass is ulltimately where you want him to go because that adds an additional step in the training process. However, if your dog or puppy has to go while you're not home and you can't take him outside, paper training or using a litter box is certainly preferable to going on the floor.

Why do I have to go outside with my puppy?

Your puppy or dog needs you to tell him what a good dog he is as he is going in the right place.

How long does it take to potty train a dog?

It varies. How long did it take you to learn how to drive a car? You probably had friends who took longer and others who didn't take as long. It takes as long as it takes!

How do I know when my dog is potty trained?

That's easy -- when he doesn't pee or poop in the house for month.

How can I start crate training?

Here are a few tips about crate training your dog or puppy.

What are the "Stages of Housebrokenness"?

Here's an article (that is reprinted with permission) about the Stages of Housebrokenness . The first time I read it, it rang true to my thinking, so I asked the author if I could use it.
